The History of Black Los Angeles explores  themes and topics in the history of African Americans in Los Angeles. In particular, it focuses on coexistence between blacks and Latinos in the first years of the 20th century, the rise and fall of the black middle class, the emergence of hardcore poverty and racial competition in South Central Los Angeles, and the recent manifestations of black/Latino tension.
